Bishop Delores J. Williamston is calling a special session of the Louisiana Annual Conference to be held May 27th, at First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, at 10:00 am.
In a letter dated Monday, April 10th, Bishop Williamston says the special session will be called "for the sole purpose of voting on the Louisiana Conference Board of Trustees recommendations for the churches disaffiliating per paragraph 2553."
Delegates that were in place for the 2022 annual conference in June, as well as the November special called session, will be the delegates for the May special session. Delegates from churches who have disaffiliated and clergy who have withdrawn are no longer eligible to attend.
If, because of charge alignment at that time, you did/did not have a delegate, the same holds true for the upcoming special session.
If a delegate or an alternate delegate cannot attend the Special Session, please contact your District Superintendent for instructions.
In-Person Voting
For the 2023 special called session, voting will be conducted in person and voting will not be available online. However, for those who are interested in observing the proceedings, we will be providing a live stream of the special called session on our YouTube channel.
How Long Will It Last?
While it's challenging to provide an exact timeframe, we are committed to making the special called session as brief and efficient as possible. The final duration will largely depend on the discussions, deliberations, and decisions made by the delegates. Rest assured, we are fully aware of the importance of your time and the need for a smooth and productive session. We will strive to keep the agenda focused.
Credential Pick-Up
Credential pick-up, for those who registered for the special called session, will be located inside First United Methodist Church's gymnasium from 8:30am to 10:30am. Delegates are reminded to bring their IDs; they will need to personally collect individual registration credentials, as group credentials will not be distributed.
Childcare
Childcare services will be available during the special called session; however, delegates are advised to arrive early to ensure arrangements can be made for their children. We kindly ask delegates to make the necessary arrangements in advance to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for everyone involved.
