Read the Pre-Conference Report
The Louisiana Conference's 2022 annual conference session will be back to an in-person event and will be held the week of June 14-17 (specific days with specific events will be released soon) in Baton Rouge, at the River Center, located downtown.
"As exciting as it is to announce the dates and location for annual conference, I am even more excited to announce that we are planning to be in person," says Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey. "I know I am not alone in a desire to gather together as one body finally. I am incredibly thankful for the patience displayed by our clergy and lay leaders over these last two years. Holding annual conference over ZOOM was certainly not preferred but it was necessary. Thanks to vaccinations and proper protocols, we feel confident that an in-person gathering can occur."
Our Theme for 2022: Inspire
No matter the church—growing church, declining church, tired church, conflicted church, staying church or going church, storm-affected church or storm-responding church, church deeply connected or church feeling apart—we know that God’s love is still being poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. As we gather after three long years away, may we come curious and hopeful into this time of Annual Conference, trusting this Spirit to inspire us in the ways that we need for our particular communities at this moment in the life of the church.
Our Scripture Focus
Our time together in June will be grounded in two pieces of Scripture, both in Romans.
Romans 5:5-11 (NRSV) 5 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9 Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. 11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Romans 12:9-11 (CEB) 9 Love should be shown without pretending. Hate evil, and hold on to what is good. 10 Love each other like the members of your family. Be the best at showing honor to each other. 11 Don’t hesitate to be enthusiastic—be on fire in the Spirit as you serve the Lord! 12 Be happy in your hope, stand your ground when you’re in trouble, and devote yourselves to prayer.
The River Center
The Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge has over 200,000 square feet and offers 70,000 square feet of unobstructed floor space, meeting rooms, concession and kitchen facilities. The Exhibition Hall will serve as our headquarters and offers plenty of space to accodate our large gathering. "The River Center can hold large groups of people and has committed to remain flexible as we plan," Bishop Harvey says. "We will have plenty of room that will allow for safe distancing should it be needed throughout our business sessions. There are also nearby worship spaces that will provide a holy space for our ordination and other services."
