The Need for Cleaning Kits

COVID Protocols Change Delivery Pattern, Churches Eligible for "Curbside" Pickup

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) assists victims of natural and man-made disasters all over the world. UMCOR’s Sager Brown warehouse in Baldwin, Louisiana collects cleaning, hygiene, and school kits for distribution in the United States.

These supplies help the most vulnerable in the aftermath of a disaster.  In preparation for the 2021 hurricane season, Sager Brown needs your help to assemble an additional 5,000 cleaning kits.

Because of the pandemic, Sager Brown has been unable to host short-term mission volunteers who assist with the verification and production of these kits.  As a result, inventory is very low, and we need help from local United Methodist churches to assemble enough kits to meet the needs of this hurricane season.

Sager Brown has all the supplies needed to assemble the cleaning kits.  If your church has resumed meeting in-person and is within a 75-mile radius of Baldwin, the supplies can be delivered curbside, directly to your church.

Once the cleaning kits have been assembled, Sager Brown can work with your church to transport the kits back to the warehouse in Baldwin.

Baldwin, Louisiana is located in south Louisiana along Highway 90, between New Iberia and Morgan City. The area of pick up would include:

  • South Lafayette; including Broussard, Abbeville, New Iberia, St. Martinville
  • St. Mary and St. Martin Parish;  including Jeanerette, Franklin, Morgan City, Pierre Part
  • Lafourche and Terrebonne Parish; including Houma and Thibodeaux

Sager Brown needs to know the following:

  • How many buckets can your church commit to completing?
  • Are you able to pick up the supplies from our warehouse or do you require the supplies be transported to you?
  • Can you deliver the assembled kits to Sager Brown, or do need help transporting the kits to Baldwin?
  • When do you plan to complete this project?

Is Your Church Too Far Away? But You Want to Help?

Only churches within a 75 mile radius are eligible for this "curbside" delivery and pick up.

However, churches that are further away can still build cleaning kits from the supplies in the Sager Brown warehouse. These churches will have to arrange to pick up the supplies from Sager Brown, build the cleaning kits and deliver them back to Sager Brown.

If you church is interested in helping, please email us.
