Board of Ordained Ministry Scholarships
The Louisiana Annual Conference Board of Ordained Ministry offers scholarships to students pursuing ordained or licensed ministry. Scholarships are based on merit and need and are available for both full-time and part-time students, as well as persons pursuing the Course of Study program.
All awards are based on materials submitted, and are awarded only for the upcoming academic year or semester.
- Awards are non-recurring
- An application is required each year
Certified candidates for ordained ministry in Louisiana are given priority consideration.
Bonnie Ruth Holley Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, established with proceeds from the estate of Reverend Holley, is awarded to a person who shows promise for ordained ministry and can clearly articulate vocational goals in service to the church. One $2000 scholarship may be awarded annually.
Jones Davis Scholarship
These scholarships, established with a gift from the Jones Davis Foundation of Baton Rouge, are awarded to theological students who can clearly articulate vocational goals in service to the church. Two $2000 scholarships may be awarded annually.
Eleanor Hurley Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, established by an Acadiana District member, is awarded solely to a Louisiana resident who is enrolled as a full-time ministerial student at any one of the following four seminaries: Perkins, St. Paul, Yale, or Union. Three $2,000 scholarships may be awarded annually.
Nanette Kirby Memorial Scholarship
These scholarships are awarded to graduate/professional degree-seeking students, or to undergraduate degree-seeking students who plan on entering seminary and can clearly articulate vocational goals in service to the church. Two $1000 scholarships may be awarded annually.
Sherman Scholarship Fund
Established by Jane Sherman as a memorial to her husband, Rev. George Sherman, to educate persons intending to enter ordained ministry. Two $1000 scholarship may be awarded annually.
Charlotte Brent Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship, established by Wilson Brent to honor his wife, provides one $2,000 scholarship annually to a woman who is beginning a second career as an ordained minister and is attending a United Methodist seminary.
Trice Ministerial Scholarship
This scholarship, established as a memorial to Dr. W.E. Trice by a member of University UMC in Baton Rouge, is awarded to graduate/professional degree-seeking students who have exceptional promise for ordained ministry and can clearly articulate vocational goals in service to the church. Preference is given to students involved in the LSU Wesley Foundation. One $2,000 scholarship may be awarded annually.
Shirley Tuero Endowment Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to degree-seeking seminary students with first consideration to those who are members or related to members of Munholland UMC of Metairie, LA.Two $2,000 scholarships may be awarded annually.
Verrett Scholarship
Five $500 scholarship grants may be awarded annually to Louisiana seminary students. Primarily for students pursuing part-time study, but also available for persons pursuing the Course of Study program.
