Our Purpose --- The Center for Pastoral Effectiveness offers an intentional and disciplined process of self-definition, vocational identity, and spiritual formation that will help sustain ministers in ministry. Pastors are provided opportunities to enhance, refresh and refine the skills that are necessary to maintain not only their ministries, but also their own well-being.

Principles the Center uses in Group Work: • Whoever shows up are the right people • Whatever happens is what needs to happen • Whenever it starts (or happens) is the right time • Be open to God, whose middle name is Surprise • When it's over, it's over

The Voices Inside: Listening and the Interior Life of the Leader by Dr. W. Craig Gilliam
All of us are affected by what goes on inside us. Whether we recognize it or not, our interior life profoundly shapes the way we act in the world, how we perceive and respond to the challenges before us. The same is true for clergy, of course. A pastor’s interior world has a dramatic impact on his or her life and ministry.

Guidelines for the blog:
Welcome to this interactive ministry of the Center for Pastoral Effectiveness! This blog's purpose is to pool the wisdom, share experiences, create conversations, cultivate learning, and explore pastoral care, systems, and leadership for ministry. The focus is not on negativity or complaints, but on being proactive and being explorers together in ministry.
- This blog is about interactive learning from one another through our conversations of attentive, deep listening and intentional, compassionate speaking.
- The focus is not on complaints and being critical, but on insights and honest, open responsible conversation.
- Please make "I" statements in ways that do not belittle people who stand at a different place from you --- "I think, I feel, I believe, I perceive."
- Speak the truth without blame or judgment.
- Always include your name and where you serve (in case you are serving in another Conference) with your post.
|
On this site are the following:
- Every-other-month, a new article will be posted on the topic of pastoral care, systems and/or leadership.
- A blog is provided for you to respond to and have interactive conversations about the article or another conversation that emerges.
- A Good Books Review - Because leaders are always looking for new good books on various topics of congregational life and leadership, as leaders, you can let us know what you are reading and submit a review. The book review is not to take the place of someone reading the book. It is to simply make a statement about the book's subject matter, why it spoke to you, and why you recommend it for others. The book reviews will be changed-out (no more than) monthly and as submissions are offered. If you need a possible outline for your book review, please refer to Outline Suggestions for Good Books Review. A Good Books Review must not exceed 300 words.
- Creative Expressions is for clergy and other church leaders. It can be poetry, which you have created; or it can be a poem written by another poet (Be sure to give the author credit for writing it!). It grows out of the belief that expressing our creativity is an important part of our spiritual and soulful growth. This Creative Expression can be poetry, some short quote, or a short writing you have created. (No Sermons allowed! Ha!)
- Archives is to preserve articles that have been written on this site for future reference.
If you desire to submit an Article, Good Book Review or Creative Expression, please be aware that submissions and comments are moderated prior to publishing. It is not necessary to re-submit your comments. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Craig Gilliam or Linda Gregg.
If you do not receive a password, it may have been blocked or put in a spam folder by your email program. If this is a problem, please contact Linda Gregg and she can send you a new password.
We anticipate your interaction and insights as we grow in ministry and learn from each other along the journey.
