The Shreveport district includes some of the fastest growing areas of Louisiana in Bossier Parish. In this area churches are meeting the challenge of growth and population shift with new church facilities, relocation, and growth in ministries to meet the needs of new residents. The Shreveport District contains historically strong parish seat churches that anchor United Methodism in their respective areas. Small rural churches dot the Shreveport District. These churches mark the spots where forebearers planted Methodist churches as they populated Louisiana . We even have one church in Texas . The small town of Bethany on the Louisiana-Texas border has its United Methodist Church on the Texas side of the border. Bethany UMC is the only church in Texas appointed by the bishop of the Louisiana Annual Conference. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have taken a lot of energy and resources in our district. Churches and institutions have housed evacuees, provided shelter and work for displaced UM clergy until they can go home again to the New Orleans and Lake Charles Districts.
The Shreveport District is the strongest district in The Louisiana Annual Conference. A lot is happening. We welcome you to be a part of our ministry as Christ works through us.
Yours in Christ,
Doug Cain
