|Dorothy Smith Barrie was born in New Orleans, LA May 28, 1929. Dorothy Smith married the late Rev. Donald Barrie, Sr. July 25, 1944 and moved to Convent, LA. Dorothy and Donald never moved away from their home in Convent. Although she traveled to every church with her husband on every Sunday, she continued to work and fellowship at her home church, St. James United Methodist Church. As a housewife and mother, she raised all eight children in Sunday School at St. James United Methodist Church. She served as a Communion Steward until her death on May 18, 1998. Her home was always open to the community. She cooked daily; any person in the community could stop and receive words of comfort, coffee and a homecooked meal. She has been a true wife, Mother and friend.
To this union, eight children were born: Donald, Ronald, Mary Ann Ursin, Gloria Anderson, Dorothy Jackson, Alvin, Herman and Tammy Phillips. She had eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three sons-in-law, five sisters and was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and one son-in-law.
