Kelley leads UMM retreat in California

December 08, 2015
The United Methodist Men of Fountain Valley United Methodist Church recently hosted a weekend retreat at the UMC Aldersgate Retreat Center in Pacific Palisades, Cal. Joe Kelley, long-time UMM leader in the Louisiana Conference and Prayer Advocate for the Upper Room Ministry, led the instructional portion of the retreat focusing on “Reaching Every Man,” the retreat theme.

Nearly 30 participants attended the event, including Fountain Valley United Methodist Men, Cal-Pac Conference UMM executive board members and men from other Southern California churches. The weekend featured worship, praise music, hiking, fellowship and learning. Using Patrick Morley’s book, No Man Left Behind: How to Build and Sustain a Thriving, Disciple-Making Ministry for Every Man in Your Church,  Kelly’s presentation emphasized that Christian men can reach out to all men to help them learn about Jesus Christ and become His disciples. Upon returning from the retreat, the Fountain Valley UMM has organized follow-up small groups split into two areas--one focused on leadership using concepts from No Man Left Behind and the other using material from Morley’s Man in the Mirror.

Joe Kelley is appointed to the position of prayer advocate by the GCUMM.
