The Louisiana Annual Conference is a part of The United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church is a Protestant Christian denomination. It is a connectional church, meaning that our churches work together in ministry. There is no creed you have to agree to in order to become a United Methodist. We are guided by the Discipline, which is revised at each General Conference (which occurs every four years).

The United Methodist Church had its beginnings with the ministry of John Wesley in the 1700s. It spread to the American colonies, where the Methodist Church was founded in 1784. Related denominations (Evangelical Association and United Brethren in Christ) - which were similar in doctrine to Methodism - formed soon after. After periods of separation and merging, the current United Methodist Church was established in 1968.
