History of the Scholarship
In 1950, the Howard L. Daughenbaugh Memorial Scholarship was established by the Board of Laity of the Louisiana Conference of The United Methodist Church to aid young people enrolled full time at Centenary College or Dillard University in the pursuit of careers in Christian education and service. In 1982, the Thomas H. Matheny Scholarship increased educational opportunities for United Methodists in the conference. Both funds were named to honor outstanding Conference Lay Leaders. In 1987, these two funds were combined to help better prepare tomorrow's Methodist Church leaders.
Why Support This Fund?
There is a pressing need throughout The United Methodist Church of Louisiana for competent leaders in many fields, and especially in Christian education. Individuals, groups, and our churches supporting this fund enable recipients to receive an education that will prepare them for a vocation in the church or to serve the church as laity. Your support of this scholarship fund is an investment in the future ministry of the United Methodist Church.
