Louisiana Clergywomen enjoy SCJ Consultation

October 06, 2015
A contingent of clergywomen from the Louisiana Conference joined Bishop Cynthia Fierro Harvey and others for the recent 2015 South Central Jurisdiction Clergywomen’s Consultation—“Telling Our Story” held at the Royal Sonesta Houston Hotel.

Bishop Harvey preached during the opening of the consultation and participated in a panel with Bishop Janice Huie during the event. The panel focused on issues of women as well as issues that will be the focus of the 2016 General Conference in Portland, Oregon.

Rev. Pam Crews, one of the Louisiana contingent, wrote the following article about her experience at “Telling the Story”:

Telling Our Story: Impact, Transform, Hope

Clergywomen from the South Central Jurisdiction gathered for three full days of intense learning on how scripture impacts us, transforms us and  gives us hope for a greater future.  As with any conference, “Telling Our Story” was packed with plenary and breakout sessions and with time for fellowship. One of the most interesting discussion topics included the subject of “kenosis,” which is the idea of completely emptying yourself to be renewed—making space for the Holy Spirit to transform us, since we can’t transform ourselves.

In Bishop Harvey’s key note speech, she challenged us to stop and take notice of where we are, where we are going and what God has for us to do. We are such busy women with husbands, children, careers and a calling from God, that sometimes makes it difficult to make space for God.  It is up to us to find time to renew our mind so God can do a mighty work through us.
The next clergy women conference will be held in the Dallas area.  Be watching for details.  It is a conference designed for women clergy and will renew your heart, mind, and soul as we continue to live for Christ.
