SAM Grants, awarded through the Conference Board of Global Ministries, provide a portion of the initial funding necessary for a local church to establish a new mission project with emphasis on programs that impact the lives of children and youth. A SAM Grant awards up to $3,000 annually for three consecutive years. Recipients of SAM Grants must submit a re-application along with an attached financial audit at the end of each fiscal year in order for funding to be renewed.
The deadline for all applications is Dec. 1, 2014. It is expected that during the three-year period of funding, recipient projects will actively seek other sources of ongoing income in order to become a viable mission program of the local church.
Priority for SAM Grant funding will be given to: 1) Church-sponsored mission projects for local communities (this includes projects sponsored by church-related institutions); 2) Local church youth or children’s programs; and 3) Salary supplements for mission project staff.
No funds will be provided for transportation ministries, local church staff salaries and day care programs.
Current award recipients include: Village of Hope (Camphor Memorial UMC); Outreach Ministry (Peoples UMC); Briggs/Abbeville Food Pantry (Abbeville UMC); Intergenerational Tutorial Program (Wesley Foundation of Southern University); New Room Summer Camp (Grace Community UMC); The Welcome Table (Mt. Zion UMC); and Feeding Hungry Souls and Stomachs (Faith Crossing UMC).
